Purpose of the Position
This post is the focal point for the development of UNICEF's Legacy fundraising. The incumbent is to provide strategic input, technical fundraising expertise, support and guidance to National Committees and country offices in the area of fundraising for legacies.

1. Lead, manage and monitor the global legacy strategy for UNICEF's fundraising. Ensure effective planning and strategic adjustments based on monitoring performance and developing key performance indicators.

2. Work with central teams (Market Development and Country Office Support), regional teams (National Committee Relationship Teams, & Regional Support Centers) and country teams (NC and Country Offices) to develop and perfect UNICEF's legacy programs. This includes the provision of hands-on support in local agency selection or the recruitment, management of external notaries and legal advisers.

  • Effective development of high quality legacy programs with all stakeholders based on prioritization.
  • High quality legacy support provided to these stakeholders for local implementation
3. Advise on global investment allocation for legacy fundraising and local requests to maximize ROI on investments. Assist with creation of investment request forms.
Support the assessment, monitoring and evaluation of the performance of legacy activities funded by PFP investment funds.

  • Strategic advice on FDP allocations offered.
  • Support rendered to markets re FDP applications and assessment made of suitability of local programs for investment.
4. Oversee the work of external consultants and ensuring all due diligence is followed in executing deliverables according to the terms of reference.

  • Activities delivered in time and within budget as agreed in the ToRs
5. Ensure the sharing of key learning's and best practice through the intranet, training sessions, dedicated workshops, or other mechanisms such as webinars. Develop and maintain user-friendly learning modules and tool kits on key areas of legacy fundraising.

  • Knowledge is created, shared and applied to optimize legacy fundraising activities
6. Follow developments globally in the field of legacy fundraising securing access to cutting edge expertise within the area. Keep track of competitor performance in legacy fundraising with the Market Knowledge Team and analyze trends with the Business Analysis Team. Maintain a network of leading performers/industry experts in the area.

7. Furthermore, the incumbent will remain sensitive to risk in the programs that he/she is supporting, and escalate as necessary.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate
  • Advanced university degree in any of the following: Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Fundraising, Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, or equivalent.
  • Eight years of relevant work experience in a fundraising role of which at least four years in legacy fundraising within a complex organization and understanding of the humanitarian sector.
  • Significant hands on experience of coordinating individual fundraising programs across most direct marketing techniques (press, direct mail, DRTV, telemarketing).
  • Experience should include development of creative briefs, analysis of complex numerical data from multiple sources and proven ability to increase overall effectiveness over time.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with international fundraising experience in legacies and those candidates who have worked on both agency and client side.
  • Fluency in English and another UN language, preferably Spanish. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station would be an asset.
  • A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
