Purpose of the Position
Under the general guidance of the Emergency Coordinator and in consultation with the programme managers, responsible for planning, developing, compiling, drafting and editing of English-language reports and papers for donors, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring that they are in line with criteria set out official guidelines and directives. The staff member will also carry out some emergency programming as required by the office.
Key Expected Results
- In collaboration with UNICEF programme officers, and other partners, planning, developing, compiling, drafting and editing of weekly and monthly reports and papers on the GoSL/UNICEF country programme to be used for donors, partners, and stakeholders (Including:, donor progress and final reports, annual reports, the Mid Term Review summary, Country Programme Documentation, workshops, human interest stories). This also includes reading and extracting key issues (program and operations) that need follow up from the daily and weekly reports from the field offices and districts and sharing with concerned programs and management for urgent action and follow up.
- Tracking reports due for donors and developing a coherent system for centralizing, recording and monitoring the Country Office's commitment to specific terms and conditions of funding, as may be required by bilateral, multilateral and trust fund donors.
- UNICEF's strategic role as lead development partner in the health, education, protection, nutrition and water sectors, Supports emergency section head to for arranging regular meetings as well as preparing and sharing information briefs, background materials, minutes and other required materials with UNICEF, relevant development partners and government, including District Councils in order to improve program synergy and convergence in emergency responses.
- In collaboration with UNICEF, government programme officers, and other partners, ensuring the overall quality of documents and compliance with criteria set out in Executive Directives, UN/UNICEF policy papers, Communication Programme manuals, UNICEF Country Programme plans and other official guidelines and directives.
- Compiling data for reporting, and confirming the accuracy of data, using mostly the relevant database and other official surveys and censuses as a source for data reporting and analysis.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Education Background
- University Degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or equivalent professional work experience in the communication area.
Work Experience
- At least Five (5) years progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, reporting, fund raising, programme monitoring and evaluation, two years of which should be in developing countries, reporting on programmes.
Language Proficiency
- Fluency in English and another UN language is required.
- Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
