Staff Accountant - CNFA HQ
Job Description:
The Staff Accountant will provide accounting and financial analysis support to projects and will provide oversight on the submission of financial reports to multiple donors and prime contractors. This position will work collaboratively with both project and headquarter staff on budget realignments and other contract/agreement amendments. Staff Accountant will have responsibility for accounts payable, backup of other accounting and administrative activities, and will assist the Controller and Contracts Manager as needed.
Position is located in Washington, D.C., at CNFA Headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- Provide senior management with information regarding CNFA's financial performance and related policy issues. Regularly prepare and present financial reports, analysis, and recommendations concerning relevant financial issues;
- Maintain Accounts Payable Ledger and Check Register;
- Deposit checks and update bank accounts on a weekly basis;
- Monitor bank account balances (money market & operating accounts);
- Verify accuracy of expenses and expense reporting from field offices;
- Verify accuracy of accounting codes from field offices;
- Verify vendor invoices for accuracy and run checks twice a week;
- Outstanding account reconciliation which includes volunteer and staff advances, prepaid expenses and clearing accounts;
- Reconcile cash balance between Field office books and Headquarter books on a monthly basis;
- Follow-up work on collections and advance repayments;
- Maintain petty cash register;
- Prepare invoices for rent and other expenses;
- Maintain and update of door keys on a regular basis;
- Enrollment of new staff in insurance plans and related fringe benefits;
- Maintenance of all equipment contracts and insurance policies;
- Serve as a backup for payroll processing;
- Develop, enhance, and maintain automated financial reporting systems to track financial performance of CNFA and its affiliates using the Deltek accounting system;
- Serve as a backup for accounting functions in closing the books and reports;
- Work directly with external auditors on a variety of technical accounting issues
- Providing assistance with internal or external audit requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other related field (required). 3+ years of prior accounting and financial analysis experience;
- Non-profit accounting experience;
- Understanding of US Government rules and regulations;
- Familiarity with USAID, USDA, DFID or international development programming and practices.
Other Requirements:
- Proficiency in Deltek accounting or a comparable accounting software;
- Proficiency in Excel software;
- A high degree of integrity, accountability, energy and flexibility;
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in fast-paced environment;
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Good working knowledge of French a plus.
