Description
Scope: Through the MicroEnterprise Development Program (MED), the International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides refugees currently in business or seeking to start businesses with opportunities for business training, one-on-one business technical assistance, and assistance with access to capital. The Micro-enterprise Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for program recruitment, the coordination of direct service provision, and outcomes tracking. Additionally, the Program Coordinator assists with program development. Reports to the Economic Empowerment Program Manager.
Responsibilities: I. RECRUITMENT OF PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS:
- Work closely with program partners to engage potential participants with the MED program.
- Distribute flyers and brochures to VOLAGs, local businesses, community centers, apartment complexes and other places frequented by potential clients.
- Provide program orientations and trainings in appropriate settings.
II. SERVICE PROVISION:
- Assess potential MED program clients and assist with preparation to enroll.
- Provide one-on-one technical assistance to microenterprise clients, making outside referrals when necessary.
- Provide assistance in business planning, cash flow statements and other required loan application documentation to clients seeking capital.
- Assure compliance with IRC's lending policies
- Play key role with IRC's lending committee, facilitating meetings, running the agenda, and discussing loan application merits with the committee for review.
- Work with program participants to ensure timely repayment of loans.
- Coordinate training workshops, including arrangement of guest speakers/trainers when necessary.
III. TRACKING:
- Collect appropriate documentation ensuring participant eligibility to receive services.
- Keep case files all for program clients.
- Conduct participant surveys.
- Enter data into the program's information data systems, including Down Home and other internal tracking forms/systems.
- Complete monthly reconciliation between finance and DownHome reports.
- Provide MED Program Manager with data for narrative reports to program funders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Development or related field; graduate degree preferred.
- Two – three years of related professional experience
- Demonstrated understanding of U.S. business climate and systems, business development, with experience in business counseling strongly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in microfinance service provision highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills including: multi-tasking, prioritizing, planning, and effective time management.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, with bi-lingual ability in any refugee language preferred.
- Ability to communicate with limited-English speakers.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft word, excel, and access.
- Demonstrated multi-cultural experience.
- Valid driver's license, active insurance policy and access to reliable transportation.
