Closing date: Friday, 16 January 2015 The Office of Communications plays a central role in the work of the Foundations by coordinating and strengthening the public presence of the global network and by helping to advance relevant issues. Communications works to raise the Foundations' public profile by promoting the network's many noteworthy achievements. The department employs media outreach, publications, and the web to assist dozens of Open Society foundations and programs in their communications efforts. Most programs and foundations in the network are governed or advised by their own boards. Job Profile The Open Society Foundations seek an experienced visual editor to work with photographers, writers, editors, developers, and designers to guide and produce photography projects and multimedia content across a range of digital platforms and mediums. (S)he will have strong negotiating skills and be equally comfortable editing text, photography, and other visual material on fast-moving digital projects as well longer-term assignments. The photo editor will report to the director of new media. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. The Open Society Foundations may add, change, or remove essential and other duties at any time. Assign, manage, coordinate the work of photographers and multimedia producers; Conceptualize shoots and provide photo and art direction as needed; Research visuals from photographers, producers, representatives, and agencies; Collaborate with Communications and program staff to identify compelling ideas for stories and maintain a content pipeline of visuals for key open society issues and regions; Conceptualize and produce visual packages for Open Society digital channels; Manage the Open Society Instagram project, including sourcing photographers and images and coordinating the daily administration of the account; Edit and curate projects quickly and to high journalistic standards; Estimate pricing and negotiate licensing and usage rights for audio, photo, and video, and manage budgets. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or bachelor's of fine arts from a four-year college or university and four to five years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Four to five years minimum of direct experience photo editing, writing, and producing visual media; Must have extensive industry contacts; Highly organized and detail-oriented; Self-sufficient, resourceful, and proactive; Strong communication skills, oral and written, including writing in an external publishing environment.
