Background
In contribution to the fulfilment of international, regional and national gender equality and empowerment of women policy and legal frameworks such as the Beijing Platform for Action, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) the Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs), the UNDP Gender Equality Strategy 2014-2017, the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Gender and Development Protocol, the AU Protocol on the Rights of Women, the Zimbabwe Constitution, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation
(ZIM-ASSET), the Broad Based Women's Economic Empowerment Framework ( BBWEF), the Zimbabwe United Nations Development Assistance Framework ( ZUNDAF) 2012-2015, the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development ( WAGCD), with support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is implementing a project entitled 'Strengthening the National Gender Machinery in Zimbabwe.' The project seeks to assist the MWAGCD in playing its coordination mandate in promoting gender equality and women empowerment in Zimbabwe through amongst others, supporting the participation of women in decision making, increasing women's economic opportunities and gender sensitive legislative and policy formulation. The project is in its final year of implementation and requires a coordinator to see the project through its cycle, ensuring implementation of outstanding activities as well as documenting best practices and lessons learned from the project.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to Implementing Partner in relation to the implementation of the project of Strengthening the National Gender Machinery in Zimbabwe, including monitoring, reporting and evaluation;
  • Assist the implementing partner (IP) in preparation of quarterly and annual work plans and budgets.Assist the IP in the compilation of achievement/result based and gender sensitive quarterly and annual reports including the terminal project report;
  • Ensures timely implementation of the activities to be carried out through systematic monitoring and evaluation;
  • Ensures that project boards are held on time;
  • Ensures the documentation of reports and lessons learned from UNDP support on gender and contribute to UNDP's knowledge management efforts;
  • Work with other UN agencies in particular UN Women to identify and disseminate lessons learnt and good practices;
  • Assist in the preparation and follow-up of high level events, workshops and meetings;
  • Assist in development of concept notes for South-South Cooperation activities and ensuring that the experiences are well documented and disseminated;
  • Provides operational and administrative support to the Gender Project including preparation of audits and follow-up actions and ensuring maintenance and inventory control of all project assets;
  • Efficient filling/documentation of project documents, work plans, progress reports, budgets and other implementation documents.

  • Ability to work with senior government officials, civil society organizations, academic institutions and other relevant stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience
Education
  • A Master's Degree in Policy Studies, Public Administration, and Law, Development/Gender Studies or related studies with evidence of some gender related studies or training.
Experience
  • At least five years' experience in development programming at national or international level with evidence for managing gender equality and empowerment of women projects.

Language
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing English;
  • At least one local language (Shona, Ndebele or others) is required;
  • Familiarity of an additional local language is an asset.
