Position Description

The Optimization, Reliability and Customer Analytics (ORCA) department within AT&T Research creates delivers original solutions to some of our Company's (and industry's) most compelling and urgent challenges, ranging from network optimization and reliability, to predictive analytics and modeling, Big Data insights, and agile development and analytics solutions prototyping. We are responsible for optimization as well as prototyping for strategic platform elements in AT&T's Domain 2.0 architecture that leverages cloud technologies, Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and Software Defined Networking (SDN), to intelligently scale AT&T's network, enable rapid deployment of advanced cutting-edge features and services, and provide industry leading security, performance and reliability. It's also an exciting time for ORCA in the area of Big Data analytics as we bring together extensive domain knowledge of business, consumer, mobility and IP services, together with the required technology expertise to harness new business opportunities using Big Data.
This position will support critical D2 Virtualized Services platform and analytics software design, architecture and implementation with unique Big Data and Cloud web applications technology. You will have the opportunity to work on highly optimized and real-time distributed software platform for network services solution design, configuration, monitoring, reporting and administration. Working with Agile methodology, you will support enterprise D2 services with state of the art portal technology, work flow management, API's, algorithms, large scale data analytics and visualization.

Interact with a variety of organizations to review, analyze and assimilate platform requirements and architecture.
Desired Areas of Expertise:
- Strong background in software development, architecture, design and implementation for mobile and web application software platforms used for large scale network management and analytics.
- Exposure with Mobile device SDK's (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile)
- Data modeling, engineering and analytics development using RDBMS and No-SQL databases.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to take project lead role for enterprise scale software systems.
- Agile software design and implementation.
- Ability to work well within and between small teams.

- Experience and knowledge working with very large data sets through summarization, analysis and visualized data for solving business problems.

Required Qualifications -
- PhD in an approved field with no minimum years of relevant experience or Masters in an approved field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors in an approved field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
- Degrees such as Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field of study.
- Entry into this title may require Technical Title Plan (TTP) Board Approval.
Desired Qualifications -
- Excellent skills and experience using Java/J2EE, JSP, Servlets, Web 2.0, Struts/Spring framework, Hibernate ORM, Rest API's.
- In-depth database design and development experience (3NF/4NF, de-normalized), Oracle SQL & PLSQL.
- Web and Mobile applications design and development using D3, HTML5, ZK, JS, CSS, XML, Ajax, Ruby, Erlang, JSTL, Tiles, iOS/Xcode and Android JDK.
- Experience using Big Data and no-SQL analytics technologies including HortonWorks Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, Pig, Hive, Hbase), R, GitHub, FastRWeb.
- Ability to design and develop using data serialization languages (YAML), configuration management tools (CHEF, PUPPET) and REST API's.
- Desired but not required experience with R, Python, Perl, Linux, Shell Scripts.
- Experience using Rules Engine for network products and services design and configuration policies (JBoss Rules drools/ Guvnor, JBPM, JRules, JESS or Manadarax).
- High performance in-memory databases (Druid, H2) integration for real-time data analytics.
- Experience designing enterprise systems for wireless/wireline network solutions design, performance, and optimization analytics a big plus.
- Knowledge of IP networking, Software defined Networks, Network Function Virtualization, Cloud and Distributed Computing technologies are desirable.
